My mother’s adoptive parents, on holiday with us in 1953. Silvena was my mother’s aunty (on her mother’s side) and, on the death of her mother, Ellen Depledge, she and her husband, Jonathan, adopted mum. Kenneth, my mother’s brother, was adopted by Silvena’s brother, Rev. Robert Halton and his wife, Ada Maude. So I suppose that made Jont and Veena both my grandparents (by adoption) and my great aunt and uncle (by blood) at the same time - confusing isn’t it.
